Around AdelaideCraig's is a great place to start for jobs, housing, etc. if that's what you're here for. There's also the extensive Bay Area Progressive Directory and other BayAreaBuildingActivities if you're into that sort of thing.
Tours?
Adelaide Hostel is on Isadora Duncan just off Taylor Street. A block uphill on Taylor is Post Street, a block down is Geary Street.
| Transit |
San Francisco's bus & trolley system is called Muni, maps are available at most corner stores. The 38 bus goes west on Geary out to the Pacific Ocean. The BART train system covers much of the San Francisco Bay Area. transit.511.org -- maps, schedules, automated trip planning and more for public transit systems throughout the area. (much of this information, and more, can be gotten by dialing 511 on a telephone)
| Food and books |
There are several places to eat on almost every block in the area. A few :
Naan n Curry, north Indian -- delicious and cheap. Down Taylor to O'Farrell then right for a block, on the right.
Keep going another two blocks and you'll come to Soups -- two heaping bowls of soup, baskets of crackers or bread, and tea, milk or coffee all for $4.25.
The Pinecrest Diner is down Taylor, left a block on Geary, on the right corner -- not cheap, but open 24 hours, as are the two other American-style diners nearby on Mason.
A little further away, at the northeast corner of Bush & Kearny is the downstairs International Food Court, very inexpensive food from all over east Asia (and one Tex-mex counter), 11a-4p?.
The neighborhood guides linked at the top of the page have more, as will guide books -- try Borders book store, a block up Taylor, then right on Post two blocks.

Washington Mutual's ATMs? charge no fee. The closest ones are at Taylor & Market, Geary & Market, and Polk & Pine.

There are plenty of other free wireless spots around San Francisco and the Bay Area. My favorite so far, available by the 21 Muni bus down Hayes St, is Cupa Joe at the corner of Hayes & Ashbury. Comfy couches upstairs, great banana bread, walking distance to several other free wireless spots and The Haight. See the cheesebikini free SF wireless list or one of these directories: Wi-Fi Free Spot (California) | NodeDB (SF area) | jiwire (they claim this will improve) | cheesebikini Berkeley | zrnetservice (most? are not free now) | Wi-Find
The SF Visitor Center (Market/Powell, down the stairs) has many additional resources on the SanFranciscoBayArea.
