One of my /FavoriteQuotes? is probably BrendaUelandOnListening?.
...and of course i look at my /FavoritePainting
One of the things i like most about NonviolentCommunication is the extent to which it does not claim to be an all new thing sprung from any one person's mind; it admits of its roots in many people, and its again-reincarnations of various ancient-to-modern bits of wisdom.
Although i am currently most familiar with CompassionateCommunication, i have varying experience (some exposure as a participant, some i have been a FaciliTator or teacher) with several other practices.
2001, i went to my first OpenSpace, and my second InternationalIntensiveTraining (a 10-day residential NonviolentCommunication training).
I think TheUniverseIsMadeOfProcess. Or is that practice?
I've created lots of pages here. One i particularly like is CourseBeforeTheHeart.
I have thought of myself as a CatHerder?, and a SensitiveNewAgeCommunistSlackerHippieGeek?.
Maybe a NonviolentAnarchist?.
Not sure what i am now. A Credulist?
Do I know what I'm doing? (thanks for dropping by TomAtlee --2nd visitor!)

Word is this is Marvin Weisbord's (the FutureSearch? guy). Anyone know from where?
It's from his book ... ProductiveWorkplaces?, page 220-something.
I am interested in the idea of what VernorVinge? calls a Singularity, referring to a large-scale transformation of the human species (or some subset of us). I wonder though at his focus on technology, suggesting a purely TechnologicalSingularity?. I have concerns that this might not be as much fun as a SocialSingularity? (or without an accompanying SocialSinugularity?).
"We only have to look around us to see how complexity and psychic 'temperature' are still rising: and rising no longer on the scale of the individual but now on that of the planet. This indication is so familiar to us that we cannot but recognize the objective, experiential, reality of a transformation of the planet 'as a whole.'" --PierreTeilhardDeChardin?, S.J., The Heart of Matter, 1950
Helped organize a small gathering in the SanFranciscoBayArea? looking at the world of activism using DynamicFacilitation in Oakland, California, UnitedStates. We experimented with other practices, and explored a spectrum of activism with strangers and community, reactive and pro-active, etc.
I consider all things, physical and virtual, to have needs (not of the CompassionateCommunication kind) in order to continue to exist and especially to thrive and flourish.
I choose whose (or what's) needs i prioritize.
In my twisted imagination (i read a lot of ScienceFiction) i can even imagine situations where i'd let PlanetEarth get destroyed, if WeirdAliens? could convince me that sustaining half the rest of the Galaxy depended on it. And this is given the fact that i am an environmentalist, believing GaiaTheory? in implications if not fact.
I mean, whatever position you're in, if you know about something and have any power with it, then you have some input, some FreeWill, some ResponsIbility?. What would you do?
In CompassionateCommunication the words LifeServing are used to refer to the commonly experienced preference of various pieces of the universe (alive and not) to survive, thrive and even multiply. I am not LifeIst? (wonderful as i think life is :-), so for me it's more about beauty/truth/god than life (See reds in RedMars?).
I believe we are better able to get in touch with the beautiful (LifeServing, true, godly) needs (of others and myself) by seeking the beauty (life, truth, etc.) behind whatever we are considering.
I never thought i'd be writing openly about god (i grew up atheist), it's embarrassing when i'm in less of a "believing mood" :-)
