Being in a place that has different bathroom habits from what one is used to, it's hard not to spend some time thinking about them. Actually, having been to south Asia several times before, i've squatted over plenty of the set-in-the-floor toilets, and am gaining in accuracy when throwing water with the right hand and cleaning with the left. I remember when i was young my dad talking amusedly about how south Asians (well, he probably said Indians) eat with their right hands because they clean their butts with the left. I was amused to discover in the last few years that some south Asians find the idea of toilet paper pretty bizarre and disgusting -- "you mean they just smush it around under there and then don't clean it?"
All i have to add about it right now is that when you have hemorrhoids or the runs, cleaning afterwards is a very comfortable habit.
p.s. Correction to my last post -- the ATM was only charging Liv Rs. 350 for Rs. 10000 withdrawal, 3.5% as opposed to the truly ridiculous 35% i initially reported.
